New Mexico’s Former Chief Justice to Keynote IJIS Institute Briefing
Justice Charles Daniels Presided Over New Mexico’s High Court for the Past Two Years
Ashburn, VA, June 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security, announces that former Chief Justice Charles Daniels of New Mexico’s Supreme Court will be a keynote speaker at the Summer 2012 IJIS Institute Industry Briefing. The event is slated for July 26-28 at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.
Justice Charles Daniels was first appointed to the Supreme Court in October 2007, on recommendation of the nonpartisan Judicial Nominating Commission. He ran unopposed in the 2008 primary and general elections. In April 2010, Justice Daniels was selected by his fellow Justices to serve a two-year term as Chief Justice. The Honorable Petra Jimenez Maes recently succeeded Justice Daniels in that role and will be providing the Welcome address at the opening of the Industry Briefing.
Born in Arkansas, Justice Daniels has lived in New Mexico since childhood. He served five years on active duty in the United States Air Force, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1966.
As a practicing attorney, he worked on civil and criminal cases, taught law at the UNM School of Law, chaired the Supreme Court's Evidence and Uniform Jury Instructions committees, and was a member of its lawyer Disciplinary Board. During his 38 years as a lawyer, Justice Daniels was named Outstanding Lawyer of the Year and National Trial Advocacy Teacher of the Year.
