Coral Gables Museum's Summer Exhibit to Feature Miami Photographer Jonathan Brooks
South Florida-based Photographer/Visual Artist Jonathan Brooks to Exhibit at Coral Gables Museum's Capture Coral Gables
Miami, FL, June 13, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Award winning Miami Visual Artist/Photographer/Writer Jonathan Brooks will be a featured artist in the collective summer exhibition Capture Coral Gables at the Coral Gables Museum (285 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables).
"I think my Pink Pineapple Plant image captures the essence of Coral Gables," says Brooks. "It is colorful, exotic, classy, and classic, all qualities I think sum up the Gables."
The skill-based photography contest is presented by the Coral Gables Museum. The objectives of the contest are to invite the public to explore and examine the City of Coral Gables through a photographic lens, as well as to recognize local talent. Awards will be determined by a professional jury and a public vote. The museum encourages the public to visit the exhibit, which runs June 8 - August 24, and vote on their favorite photograph.
The contest showcases the work of adults, teens, and children each in sub-categories that include nature/landscape, historic sites, architecture, and faces of Coral Gables. The artists and their art were selected among 150 entries by a panel of professional jurors and the show will ultimately announce 13 category winners at the end of the summer.
Sponsors include Think Tank Photo, Associated Photo & Imaging, and World Wide Foto. Prize donors include the Biltmore Hotel & Country Club, Season 52, La Dorada, Sushi Maki, Peterbrooke Chocolatier, Coral Gables BID, Boys Meets Girl, Books & Books, Coral Gables Art Cinema, and L. Boutique.
Brooks' Pink Pineapple Plant is featured in the nature/landscape category and was taken at Coral Gable's Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
Earlier this year, his work was shown locally in a solo exhibit at the First National Bank of South Miami. He's also recently shown his work at the Miami Beach Community Health Center's Through the Eyes of Love Aids Exhibition, Miami Magazine and Beck's Beer's Beck's Emerging Artist Exhibition, and Paws 4 U's Art Zoo Charity Exhibition- all during Miami's International Art Basel Week.

The opening reception of Capture Coral Gables is on Friday, July 6th, 6pm-9pm. The general public is invited to vote for their favorite photographs. This event is free and presented in conjunction with Coral Gables Gallery Night.
The awards ceremony and closing reception is on Saturday, August 25, 11am-12pm. The 13 category winners will be announced and their prizes will be presented.
About Jonathan Brooks:
Jonathan Brooks is an award winning photographer, whose work has been exhibited in Art Basel Miami, New York City, and the United Kingdom. His studies in graphic design and architecture, and extensive backgrounds in the fashion industry and music industry have helped to influence his work.
Brooks graduated magna cum laude with a BS degree from the University of Miami with a Communications Double Major (Advertising and Fine Arts: Photography) and a minor in Marketing.
The story and images detailing the renovation of his condo appeared nationally in Venus magazine. He has numerous photography exhibitions to his credit and is currently working on his next.
Jonathan worked for Eastman Kodak for some time during the transition from film to digital, as well as some other major companies. Highly proficient in computers, he has been using them since before AOL even existed.
He is a rare Miami native and is bilingual. He currently writes and photographs reviews for GreatFoodList.com and is the shop owner of Jonathan Brooks Visual Arts on Etsy.com.
