Inaugural "Frogman" Memorial Swim and Benefit Planned to Honor Fallen Navy SEAL with Ties to Florida

Special Warfare Operations Chief Petty Officer Aaron Vaughn, one of 22 Navy SEALS killed when their helicopter was shot down last year in Afghanistan, would have turned 31 this month. Instead his family and friends are planning a memorial Frogman Swim and Family Day to honor his life, benefit his small children, and remember a fallen hero who dedicated his life to protecting our country.

West Palm Beach, FL, June 13, 2012 --(PR.com)-- It’s an event fit to honor the life of a hero and to benefit the precious lives left behind. The Inaugural Aaron Vaughn Frogman Swim and Family Day will take place Saturday, June 30th at Jensen Beach Park in Martin County. This day of remembrance falls on the weekend of what would have been Aaron Vaughn’s 31st birthday.

Aaron Vaughn, An American Hero
The term “frogman” refers to someone who is trained in scuba diving or underwater swimming in a military capacity which includes combat. Special Warfare Operations Chief Petty Officer Aaron Vaughn was a member of the elite DEVGRU (SEAL Team VI). He, along with 29 other American Warriors, including 22 Navy SEALS, was killed in action on August 6th, 2011, when their Chinook helicopter was shot down in the Tangi River Valley of Afghanistan. This crash represented the single largest loss of life in Naval Special Warfare history, and remains a devastating loss for Vaughn’s family and friends.

The Event

The Inaugural Aaron Vaughn Frogman Swim is a 200yard, 1K & 5K Open Water Ocean Swim Competition which is expected to draw swimmers, family, friends and supporters from across the country. The event takes place at Jensen Beach Park and runs from 9am to noon, with registration beginning at 7:30am. Activities are planned for non-swimmers as well. Proceeds from event will benefit Aaron Vaughn’s young children.
