Falls Church, VA, June 16, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Ralph G. Perrino, Owner and Director of Northern Virginia Tutoring Service, located in Fairfax County, Virginia, has published “The American Community College: A Continuing Gateway to Opportunity.”
Dr. Perrino has taught Sociology, Political Science, and Business Management at Northern Virginia Community College since 1984 where he has been a vocal advocate of the community college as an alternative to expensive colleges and universities. He has previously written “Community College: An Option Not to be Ignored in College Planning” (http://www.nvtutoring.com/articles.php).
Dr. Perrino’s latest essay addresses the historic role of the community college system in bridging the higher education gap in America by pointing out that community colleges have opened the door to higher education to millions of recent immigrants, minority students, and others who have heretofore not been afforded the opportunity of a college degree.
This essay also addresses the role of the community college in bridging the employment gap during the most recent economic recession by pointing out that business leaders since the early part of the 20th century have looked to the community college as a source of a skilled labor force. Northern Virginia Community College, with a student body comprised of more than 78,000 degree students and 24,000 non-degree students in a wide range of fields ranging from medicine to automotive technology is, in the words of Dr. Perrino, in the forefront of the community college movement in America.
