Incentives include a $500 factory rebate, 0.0% APR for 48 months, and $500 worth of loyalty rebates on qualifying Mitsubishi or Saturn owners. The 2012 Lancer Sportback is a hatchback version of the very popular Mitsubishi Lancer. Extra interior and storage space are added to all the fun and handling characteristics of a normal Lancer along with all the sporty styling cues. The Lancer Sportback is available in base ES and GT trims. Many of the features of the GT are available as standalone add-ons or as parts of packages though. Featuring a 2.4 liter, four-cylinder engine with 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft. of torque, the GT model puts the power through a CVT and a front-wheel drive layout. While a conventional manual transmission is unavailable, the Lancer Sportback does have paddle shifters that can be used to access simulated gear ratios on the CVT. Where this hatchback really shines is in its interior space. Comfortable seats, even in the rear, have noticeably adequate legroom for adult passengers. The rear seat is also a 60/40 split folding style, increasing the 13.8 cubic feet of storage up to 46.6 cubic feet with the rear cargo floor still in or 52.7 with it removed.
The ES model has adequate power for the average driver, but the GT is actually quite spirited. Responsive low end power, paired with the car’s sharp, agile handling makes it a very fun car to drive.
