OKC Roofing Advice to Property Owners from Allstate Roofing Experts

Allstate Roofing Experts advice to OKC Residents who suffered hail damage.

Oklahoma City, OK, June 23, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Should you ask for a hand nailed roof? Absolutely. It makes all the difference. Just ask the Allstate Roofing Experts, client Jerry Johnson who had their hail damaged roofs replaced with the hand nailed Allstate Roof System. He stated that in a Tornado that hit the SE side of of OKC, 40 foot trees were blown down, but not one shingle was off the roof at his house. Their neighbors were not so fortunate, as many of the ones who had new nail gunned roofs, lost shingles and complete sections of their roofs. One can only imagine their disappointment, to find that kind of roof damage and subsequent interior damage. Brett Rostochil with Allstate roofing Experts states that over time roofers started using nail guns to speed up the roof installation process. He says this unfortunate shortcut has decreased the quality of roofs installed today and lowered the standard in the industry among roofers. Brett says, "The hand nailed roof system is superior for many reasons. The head on the hand driven nail is shaped differently than the coil nails that are run through a nail gun. They have a larger diameter to increase wind resistance. It’s simple physics. A less commonly known reason why hand nailing is better is that the nail guns do not regulate the amount of pressure as well and a roofer installing each nail by hand. Often the nails shot through a gun are overdriven causing the shingle to have little to no pressure point adhering it to the decking. These shingles can slide off a roof or lift more easily in high winds. When a roofer installs a hand nailed roof system, the placement of the nails are more in line with the Gaf/Elk shingle manufacturer specifications. The roofer is using a more controlled flow, because of the rhythm of hand nailing, and takes the time to place the nails in the appropriate line on the shingle rows." This has been noted by experts in the industry Per Certianteed and Gaf/ ElkYou tube videos. Mr. Rosstochil a retired senior Property adjuster turned Contractor stated, "It takes a little longer to install a roof if hand nailed. This costs the roofer more in labor, which is primarily the reason it ceased to be the main application technique.” Brett goes on to say, "You know, some things are just worth doing, even if it takes more effort. This is one of those things. Do yourself a favor, and just say No… to nail guns." Brett Rostochil with Allstate Roofing Experts only hand nails roofs for no added charge, because quality matters. Allstate Roofing Experts also offer 6 nailing shingles rather than just 4 nails to give you 130 MPH wind rating on GAF/ELK Timberline Lifetime shingles per the manufacturer.
