New Hope, PA, June 17, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Steve Messenger was born in Maryland and began drawing at age three. In high school Steve began receiving commission work and gained admission to the Maryland Institute College of Art.
After attending his first year, Steve left art school to work as a road groom for the Korean Olympic show jumping team. After sixteen months on the road Steve took a job at Gates Head Farm in Solebury, PA. and began looking and appreciating art in New Hope and Lambertville.
In 1999 Steve left the horse show world in order to apply to the University of The Arts in Philadelphia and began classes that fall, earning his BFA degree in 2001.
Steve may have left work in the horse show world, but not the horses. He began to photograph horses as well as, a three day event rider, and his girlfriend Amy. The artist saw in his most radical photos a way to explore new ideas in contemporary realism using a traditional Bucks County subject.
Steve has exhibited work at the Phillips’ Mill juried annual show as well as most shows of note in the area including: Riverbank Arts, Hick’s Art Center, Windy Bush Gallery, Philadelphia Sketch Club, Hrefna Jonsdottir Gallery, Cheltenham Art Center, Prallsville Mill Arts Bridge, Mixed Media, Sally French Gallery, Swan Gallery, 77th Annual Phillips Mill Show, Mixed Media Drawing Show.
