Steven Juneau to Serve Indian Country from BIA Office of Justice Services

Albuquerque, NM, June 29, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Lamar Associates confirmed today that Steven Juneau, CEO of the Indian Country Training Division, has accepted a position as Deputy Associate Director of Operations for the Bureau of Indian Affairs' Office of Justice Services (OJS). In this capacity, Mr. Juneau will be continuing what has been a lifetime of dedicated service to improving the safety and quality of life in Indian Country.

At the OJS, Steven will be assigned to the Bureau's Field Operations Directorate. The office's main goal is to uphold the constitutional sovereignty of federally recognized tribes and preserve peace within Indian Country. The OJS has primary responsibility for investigating crimes that occur in Indian Country. The OJS also provides oversight and technical assistance to tribal law enforcement programs as requested, which is one of Mr. Juneau's great strengths.

Mr. Juneau is an enrolled tribal member of the Tlingit and Haida Tribes of Alaska and descendant of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana, where he began his law enforcement career as a tribal officer. He quickly rose through the OJS ranks as a police sergeant, special agent, and deputy chief of training at Indian Police Academy. As an Assistant Special Agent in Charge and Special Agent in Charge, he directed a major re-engineering of police departments, increased responsiveness and developed strategies to counter crime.

He developed the Bureau’s crime prevention initiative, which merged private sector organizations and intergovernmental entities to collaboratively combat crime in Indian Country. He also implemented the first statistical driven crime-fighting model for Indian Country, which resulted in decreased crime rates. He received numerous awards of distinction including the Bureau’s recognition award for management and operational expertise, the U.S. Attorney’s LECC Award for innovative drug investigations, and the Leadership Award from the Indian Country Intelligence Network of Nevada. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, and Northwestern University Center for Public Safety.

Recognizing Mr. Juneau’s experience and expertise, Lamar Associates recruited him six years ago to lead our training division. The company has enjoyed the benefits of Steven's expertise and diverse skill set and under his direction, the Indian Country Training Division delivered training and technical assistance to thousands of participants and hundreds of tribes. Mr. Juneau built a strong team of Native training professionals who will continue to provide the company's onsite and online training programs. Not only has our roster of highly qualified trainers increased under his watch, but Mr. Juneau negotiated strategic partnerships with a number of partners in training and technical assistance, including National DEC, NICWA, NarrowGate Security and the Native Wellness Institute.

Steven Juneau says of his time as the head of Lamar Associates' Indian Country Training Division, “It has been a tremendous experience working with the amazing professionals at Lamar Associates. They truly embody the value of meaningful and purpose-driven service to our tribal communities. I look forward to continuing the same dedication and service in this new opportunity.”

Walter Lamar, CEO of Lamar Associates responds, “It will be difficult to see Steve go because we have had such a productive partnership and he is part of our family. The BIA is lucky to get such a capable man and we have full confidence that he is the best choice for Indian Country. Lamar Associates is grateful that Steve built a strong training and technical assistance division that will ensure we enjoy continued capacity and capability to serve Indian Country.”

Indeed, Lamar Associates is planning a busy summer schedule of training programs. Planned events include DOJ-COPS sponsored prescription drug abuse training conferences, an Officer Survival course, onsite and online training programs and a training on building strategic community partnerships. In addition, Lamar Associates is rolling out a series of online training programs developed on critical topics including methamphetamine abuse, prescription drug abuse and officer safety.
