Snaggle Foot Pet Franchise Makes Computer Donation to UIC
Barossa Franchise, the franchising company of Snaggle Foot Dog Walks & Pet Care, has donated a set of laptop computers to the Writing Center at UIC.
Denver, CO, July 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Barossa Franchise, the franchising company behind Snaggle Foot Dog Walks
and Pet Care, has donated ten laptop computers to the University of Illinois at Chicago's Writing Center.
Over the course of several campus visits this past semester, Karen Cockrill, Snaggle Foot's founder and UIC alumna, was struck to find students working in a busy 120-capacity computer lab. Knowing that the hectic environment was less than ideal for working on academic assignments, Cockrill looked for ways to help.
"The computer lab is a great resource for students, but it's such a busy place," says Cockrill. "I just couldn't imagine having to get work done in a lab with so many people running about and commotion all around."
Part of the hallmark of Snaggle Foot's pet care franchise is its heavy-handed focus on technology, which includes giving all freshman franchisees a new laptop computer. Knowing that she could provide laptops to students just as easily, she was prompted to approach the school's Dean for Advancement about a donation.
"My first thought was to create a scholarship-type program for students where they would receive their own laptop. But after talking it through with several departments, we decided that the Writing Center would benefit the most from new computers. I felt replacing those outdated laptops would be of the most benefit, and as a bonus, it's such a nice, quiet place to get work done," recounts Cockrill.
The new laptop computers are now fully installed and ready for use by the students for the upcoming Fall semester.
"It's really great to see the students in there benefiting from the updated technology. I'm just happy we could help."
Cockrill earned her Bachelor's degree in Economics from UIC and currently sits on the Board of Visitors, where she and other accomplished alumni work in an advisory role with the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
