Coats and Bennett, PLLC Attorneys Attend White House Roundtable Discussion with Senator Kay Hagan
David Bennett and Anthony Biller Attend Roundtable Discussion on Issues Facing N.C. Businesses
Cary, NC, July 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Coats and Bennett, PLLC (http://www.coatsandbennett.com), an intellectual property law firm, has announced that David Bennett, managing partner of the firm, and Anthony Biller, partner and intellectual property litigator with the firm, attended a roundtable discussion featuring Senator Kay Hagan on issues facing N.C. businesses. The roundtable, held on the SAS campus, was dedicated to federal issues of concern to local business leaders and focused on pending or proposed legislation that would assist the local industry.
Biller joined other business leaders in advocating for patent litigation reform aimed at curbing the inefficiencies associated with patent troll litigation. Biller and Bennett encouraged the senator’s office to further promote the Triangle as the next location for a United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) satellite office. Biller also suggested to Senator Hagan that Congress consider forming a task force to evaluate whether all innovations should be given the same treatment under the Patent Act with regard to the duration of the patent grant and treatment in prosecution, regardless of the area of technology.
Quotes:
“We thoroughly enjoyed the roundtable discussion with Senator Hagan,” said Biller. “We were given the opportunity to ask pressing questions which address some of our business concerns and make suggestions that could provide solutions to some of our ongoing problems. We left the event with a better understanding of how pending legislation may affect businesses in the Triangle.”
“The White House roundtable discussion was a great opportunity for us to hear from Senator Hagan what the government is doing to address issues affecting the Triangle business community,” said Bennett. “Seldom do local business leaders have the chance to ask questions and offer suggestions directly to a U.S. Senator, and we enjoyed the experience.”
