New Magical Realism Collection to Benefit Planned Parenthood
People with Holes, Heather Fowler’s second book of magical realist stories, supports women's rights to sexual health. 100% author’s proceeds will be donated to Planned Parenthood. The publisher will match the author’s contribution.
Auburn, MA, July 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Pink Narcissus Press announces its first magical realism collection with a charitable goal, People with Holes by California-based author Heather Fowler. This collection is Fowler’s second book of magical realist stories and 100% author’s proceeds will be donated to Planned Parenthood. The publisher will match the author’s contribution.
Fowler states: “In the time-honored tradition of an artist’s protest against inequities, I am delighted to give an entire creative work to the cause of women’s reproductive health and rights. If you like books and support Planned Parenthood, please pick up a copy of People with Holes today. It is in the vein of embracing Emerson’s view that ‘The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived’ that I choose to donate my proceeds from this collection to all the American women, known and unknown, who are benefited by an organization that seeks to provide a place they can receive respect, the acknowledgment that they can and should maintain control of their sexual health, and the much needed support to make positive choices.”
People with Holes has received advance praise from ForeWord Reviews for its literary merit: “Readers who admire any of the finest writers in the genre (Isabel Allende, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Franz Kafka, Toni Morrison, and Salman Rushdie) should enjoy the flights of fancy within this book, and also be able to confront its darker journeys.”
About the Collection: Hailed as “magic realism at its finest,” Fowler’s writing reveals the small but essential truths that motivate sex and relationships. Whether in museums of solitude, in airports of dreams, or at the circus, these stories are bound together by transformation, anthropomorphism, and ultimately by love’s inevitable consequences. Fowler’s unique vision is thought-provoking, with a touch of feminist sensibility, and shot through with quirky and laugh-out-loud humor.
