Baker Middle School Enters Students’ Works in Chimera 25th Anniversary Digital Video Student Film Contest Presented By StudentFilmmakers.com

New York, NY, November 22, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Students at Baker Middle School in Troy, Michigan, engaged in the process of filmmaking during art and science class. Art students researched an artist and created a video to highlight the artist's work and life. Science students used stop-frame animation to create a video that explained a specific science concept. 

Their instructors Linda Gealy and Laura Glish were recipients of a $10,000 Toyota TAPESTRY grant through the National Science Teacher's Association. This grant allowed Baker Middle School to purchase digital video camcorders and computers for video editing. 

The process of creating a video allowed students to learn valuable skills that they can utilize throughout high school and into the work force. Students went beyond the level of learning in which they simply memorize facts. They extended their learning to that of synthesis in that they had to learn about their topic, and determine a way to present their information so their peers would pay attention to their message. 

A film festival was held at the end of the year to show off the students’ works. 

The students' films are currently showing online at StudentFilmmakers.com and have been entered in the Chimera 25th Anniversary Digital Video Student Film Contest.
