Manchester, NH, July 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- GRRO International Supports Thousands Worldwide With Shipments
More than one million pounds of surplus relief supplies have been shipped since the beginning of May by recent start-up GRRO International to thousands of people in need worldwide. Supplies have been shipped to locations locally, throughout the US and internationally and have included such destinations as Western Massachusetts and Ohio here in the US as well as places like Guyana, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti and Jamaica worldwide. These shipments have included classroom furnishings, dormitory bedroom furniture, kitchen equipment, cafeteria furnishings, medical supplies and equipment and many other types of materials. In all cases, these materials were destined for local landfills but were diverted to those in need through GRRO’s environmentally-focused Responsible Reuse Program for Surplus Property. All this, done in concert with GRRO’s network of non-profit, faith-based organizations whose missions include the support of the needy worldwide.
Statistics from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) show an ongoing, significant need for assistance throughout the world. In 2010, more than 215 million people were affected by natural disasters; 810 million had no access to potable water supplies; 925 million were classified as chronically mal-nourished; and nearly 40 million were determined to be homeless worldwide. GRRO International looks to target their programs and services to assist this large segment of the world’s population. In 2011, USAID funds accounted for more than $2.6 billion in humanitarian assistance and private non-profit organizations accounted for another $4 billion. “These shipments are critically needed in places like Port-Au-Prince, Haiti as they continue to rebuild from the terrible earthquake that struck in January of 2010”, Mark Berry, Co-Founder and General Manager for GRRO International said. “Basic necessities that we take for granted here in the states don’t exist there or in other areas like Central America, Africa, eastern Europe and the Caribbean Basin. What we classify as trash here in the US, others in our world look at as critically needed supplies. These shipments are, literally, life savers.”
All materials included in these shipments were pre-identified, triaged for quality and compatibility, loaded by GRRO's contracted labor crews and transported to domestic or overseas destinations. The recipients were selected through consultations with the dozens of non-profit organizations partnering with GRRO International and the logistics to match the recipients with the generators of the surplus were planned at GRRO’s offices in Manchester, NH.
