Golf Outing in Support of South Nassau Communities Hospital's Cancer Program Raises Over $270K
The annual outing raised over $270,000 in support of the programs and services provided by South Nassau’s Gertrude & Louis Feil Cancer Center.
Oceanside, NY, July 28, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Healthcare services innovator and physician executive Daniel R. Ferrara, DO, FACEP, was the honoree of South Nassau Communities Hospital’s 28th Annual Golf Outing held on Monday, June 4, at The Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor and Middle Bay Country Club in Oceanside.
The annual outing raised over $270,000 in support of the programs and services provided by South Nassau’s Gertrude & Louis Feil Cancer Center, which is the only cancer care provider on Long Island that is equipped with three of the most advanced and effective technologies used to treat cancer: the Varian Novalis Tx™, da Vinci® Surgical System and Gamma Knife®. The center is a recipient of many prestigious honors and citations, including the American College of Surgeons’ Comprehensive Community Cancer Center designation and the Commission on Cancer’s Outstanding Achievement Award.
“When the topic of discussion is leadership in the delivery of standard-setting, patient-centered emergency care and family medicine, Dr. Ferrara is among the handful of leaders most often mentioned,” said South Nassau’s president and CEO, Joseph A. Quagliata. “His vision and clinical acumen have been vital to the high standards and quality care provided by the hospital’s Emergency Services Department.”
Dr. Ferrara is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Island Medical Physicians, PC; Island Emergency Medical Services, PC; Island Urgent Medical Care, PC and Island Medical House Doctor, PC. The company provides management and staffing to the emergency departments at South Nassau and a number of other Long Island-based hospitals; owns and operates several urgent and family medicine practices located in Nassau and Suffolk Counties; and provides 500 house calls per month in western Nassau and Suffolk County.
During his tenure as chair of South Nassau’s Emergency Services Department from 2002-2004,
Dr. Ferrara oversaw an aggressive expansion of the department and was responsible for the implementation of strategies, policies and procedures to enhance patient care; recruitment and management of department staff; and regulation and supervision of EMS and ambulance agencies.
Before joining South Nassau, Dr. Ferrara was the director of emergency services at New Island Hospital. He had also served as director of emergency services at Brunswick Hospital from 1995-2000. He is a 1981 graduate of Allegheny College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Ferrara earned a Doctor of Osteopathy from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of New York Institute of Technology in 1986.
The annual outing’s 240 golfers competed for low gross score, closest to the pin, longest drive, and hole-in-one prizes. The afternoon of golf was followed by an evening of fine dining, camaraderie and fun, including a lavish buffet and raffle prizes, including tickets to professional sporting events; foursomes at the area’s most prestigious golf courses; and golf equipment and accessories. The annual outing’s top sponsors were Bartlett, McDonough, & Monaghan, LLP; Island Emergency Medical Services, PC; Caduceus, Inc.; Optimum Lightpath; Bethpage Federal Credit Union and Signature Bank. Karp Buick, Anchor Audi, Paul Conte Cadillac and Wantagh Mazda were the hole-in-one sponsors.
“Once again, South Nassau’s annual golf outing was a tremendous success because of our generous sponsors and the participants and volunteers who continue to support this event year after year,” said Elizabeth Nardone, vice president of development at South Nassau.
