Love in a Brutal World: Hope Flies on Broken Wings Published by Outskirts Press
L. F. Falconer shows that a brutal world does not tolerate innocence for long as a young girl struggles to follow her heart without bringing shame on her family in the medieval world of Donnel.
Fallon, NV, July 28, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Novelist L. F. Falconer announced today the release of Hope Flies on Broken Wings, published by Outskirts Press. Set in the allegorical fantasy setting of the medieval realm of Donnel by the sea, Falconer’s poignant tale tells of a naïve young girl’s first love affair with the lonely and troubled son of an evil man and the social disapproval it causes.
Collie is the middle class daughter of a tinker and she unexpectedly loses her heart to Dugan, a young fisherman of the town. Collie tries to follow her heart despite the harsh disapproval of her hypocritically devout mother and the bigotry of the townsfolk around her who practice severe class segregation.
Dugan, meanwhile, has become torn between his love for Collie and his knowledge that their relationship is a danger for her. He wants, but is not sure how, to protect her from the closed world around her which is trying to lower her status because of the perceived impropriety of their love. Dugan’s own fragile self-esteem begins to wear away, too, under the strain, yet Collie tries to continue their relationship without tarnishing her family’s reputation.
Then comes the night that changes everything.
Hope Flies on Broken Wings is the story of dramatic love and equally dramatic loss as seen through the eyes of two innocent, but defiant adolescents, and through its simple medieval setting it brings to light many of the societal issues of today, including domestic violence, child abuse, bigotry, class segregation and religious intolerance.
The story’s appropriately dark side and Falconer’s clever fantasy elements make this debut novel a rich and suspenseful read.
