August Sensory Friendly Films Series at AMC Theatres in New Brunswick to Spotlight NJCTS

At 10 a.m. Saturday, August 11, visit the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders booth at the showing of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days."

New Brunswick, NJ, August 01, 2012 --(PR.com)-- For the first time, the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders (NJCTS) will take part in AMC Theatres’ Sensory Friendly Films series, which occurs at six theatres around New Jersey each month.

NJCTS will present its programs and services and host a booth outside the auditorium for the Saturday, August 11, showing of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days” at the AMC New Brunswick 18, located at 17 U.S. Highway 1 in New Brunswick. The film will be shown at 10 a.m., but the NJCTS booth will be open beginning at 9:30 a.m. and will remain open for up to a half hour after the movie’s completion.

The Sensory Friendly Films series is the result of a partnership between AMC Theatres and the Autism Society. It brings together families affected by neurological disorders such as autism, Tourette Syndrome, OCD, ADD, ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, anxiety and depression, and represents a special opportunity for those families to enjoy their favorite films in a safe, accepting environment.

The movie auditorium will have its lights brought up and the sound turned down. Families can bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks. And no previews or advertisements will be shown before the film. Attendees also are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing – AMC’s usual “Silence is Golden” policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience comes into question.

NJCTS encourages families and individuals affected by Tourette Syndrome and its associated disorders from around New Jersey to join it for this special day at the AMC Theatres in New Brunswick. However, tickets cannot be purchased through NJCTS at any point. They are available for just $4 to $6, but only at the theatre on the day of the event.

If you cannot attend the event in New Brunswick, there are five other AMC Theatres locations around New Jersey hosting the Sensory Friendly Films series:
