Dr. Nicola King is the Acting Course Coordinator BSc & BBioSc of the University of New England, School of Science and Technology. Dr. King received a B.S. with Honors from Napier University and a Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Her area of expertise is Cardiovascular Physiology and her research interests include oxidative stress and antioxidant status in the heart, physiological vs. pathological cardiac hypertrophy, myocardial protection and cardiac amino acid and dipeptide transport. She is the author of numerous publications and has received prestigious fellowships from the British Heart Foundation, which she used to characterize acidic amino acid transport in the heart and to reveal the potential of acidic amino acids as myocardial antioxidants. Before joining the University of New England, Dr. King held a lecturing position at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam where she was involved in medical education and the development of a new degree program. Dr. King is a member of the British Society for Cardiovascular Research and the Physiological Society. Dr. King enjoys field hockey, classical music and opera.
