IAMTHEINTERNET: A Farewell Letter to Providence by Diana Joy to World Premiere at Yellow Peril Gallery
Shot in Rhode Island and Vermont, IAMTHEINTERNET introduces audiences to a familiar friend, a “ubiquitous technobeast” known as The Internet, who absentmindedly consumes while a helpless youth loses a sense of self in the engagement process.
Providence, RI, August 01, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Yellow Peril Gallery is pleased to present the world premiere of IAMTHEINTERNET, a farewell letter to Providence by video artist Diana Joy. Every Friday from 10 August to 7 September, the Gallery will screen IAMTHEINTERNET, along with a select number of videos from Joy’s impressive video vault, from 8PM – 10PM. The opening event will be on Friday, 10 August, from 8PM – 11PM.
Shot in Rhode Island and Vermont, IAMTHEINTERNET introduces audiences to a familiar friend, a “ubiquitous technobeast” known as The Internet, who absentmindedly consumes while a helpless youth loses a sense of self in the engagement process. The edit, sound, design and star of IAMTHEINTERNET is the project’s creative source: Diana Joy.
After two years in the Providence underground art scene as a video artist, musician and clothing/customer designer, Joy recently moved to New York, New York, to carve out a new setting for her distinct brand of “ritualistic music video and performance,” which is influenced by an eclectic roster of idols as varied as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Leigh Bowery, Britney Spears, Jim Carrey, and, of course, The Internet.
Yellow Peril Gallery Director Vanphouthon Souvannasane is enthusiastic about showcasing video artists like Joy, whose videos are rarely shown in a Gallery setting, but are popular in people-powered media sites such as YouTube and Vimeo.
“Diana Joy is a unique artist who has the uncanny ability to create videos with a strong narrative and match them with perfectly-edited music that she herself creates,” he notes, adding: “She is a ’Renaissance Woman’ who has the talent, wit and capability to infuse art with glamour and create unforgettable visions that will make you both sigh and sing along.”
IAMTHEINTERNET will run at Yellow Peril Gallery every Friday from 10 August to 7 September 2012. IAMTHEINTERNET will be screened along with a select number of videos from Diana Joy on Fridays from 8PM – 10PM. The opening event will be on Friday, 10 August, from 8PM – 11PM. Gallery hours are Thursday and Friday, 3PM – 8PM and Saturday and Sunday, 12PM – 5PM. Other days by appointment or chance.
