Breast Cancer: Discovering Hope Through Informed Decisions
Delray Beach, FL, August 01, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Highly-acclaimed actress and health advocate Mariel Hemingway appears as featured guest on the upcoming episode of the Better Living television series. The Spanish edition, Una Vida Mejor, is scheduled to air nationally on Telemundo Sunday, August 5 at 7:30 am. Now in its third season, the half-hour program explores the most important issues and topics related to America’s health and well-being.
This upcoming episode includes a special report entitled “Breast Cancer: Discovering Hope Through Informed Decisions,” which explores the benefits of the Oncotype DX® breast cancer test, announced Patty Elliot-Sayer, Executive Producer of the series.
Each year more than two hundred thousand women in the United States are diagnosed with Breast Cancer. And a majority of them will be treated with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, or a combination of the three. But not every woman with early-stage breast cancer will require aggressive treatment. For example, many women undergo chemotherapy with minimal, if any benefits. Now there is one diagnostic tool that is helping physicians and patients determine proper treatment protocols: the Oncotype DX breast cancer test developed by Genomic Health® provides individual breast cancer diagnosis and treatment information. In this special report, viewers will hear how leading breast cancer specialists, Marissa Weiss, M.D., President and Founder, BreastCancer.org and Ruth Oratz, M.D., New York University School of Medicine, are utilizing the Oncotype DX test to help personalize breast cancer treatment planning for their patients.
“What is at stake is women’s lives and we want to make sure that each woman has her best chance at getting the best treatment and outcome possible,” said Dr. Weiss.
“The information that Oncotype DX test provides is above and beyond the information that we get from the traditional pathology report,” said Dr. Oratz. “The Oncotype test really digs into that cancer cell and looks at the molecular biology of the cell in many different pathways not just the two or three kinds of biomarkers that we get in the traditional pathology report.”
