Los Angeles, CA, August 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Producer Darren Reagan (The Doberman Gang) has optioned the rights to the Dan Cooper comic book series. Published by Le Lombard (Tintin), Dan Cooper is a Franco-Belgian comic about a globetrotting flying ace.

Described as Indiana Jones meets Top Gun, the original comics series was conceived in 1954 for Tintin magazine and was written and drawn by Albert Weinberg. The FBI also considers “Dan Cooper” to be the basis for the unsolved “D.B. Cooper” hijacking.

In 2009, an FBI agent suggested the possibility that the perpetrator of the "D. B. Cooper" hijacking may have based his alias on the eponymous fictional hero of the comic book series. The feature adaptation will tie into the hijacking. Reagan has worked with writer Sebastien Dumesnil on a story, which Reagan hopes to pitch to the town shortly.

“We think the success of the "Tintin" adaptation shows that a European comic can find a global audience. The original Dan Cooper stories are action packed, with great cinematic elements,” says Reagan. “In our case, the story also ties into a piece of American mythology. We’ve found an organic way to tie the 1971 hijacking into the plot of the original "Dan Cooper" comics.

Reagan is looking to a franchise model, with the first "Dan Cooper” film, Skyland, planned to launch a series of films. As with the Doberman Gang remake, Reagan is seeking a production partner for the "Cooper" films.

About Darren Reagan
Reagan’s development slate includes the "Doberman Gang" remake as well as the television adaptation of Cynthia Buchanan’s novel Maiden, with a pilot by Gina Fattore (Californication, Dawson’s Creek), and "Belle Isle", a feature adaptation of Fiona Mountain’s novel Isabella. Reagan is represented by attorney Robert Myman at Myman Abell Fineman Greenspan Light.
