Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice Annual Golf Tournament Raises More Than $164,000 for Patients and Families
Marlton, NJ, August 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- “Get Loud FORE! A Good Cause,” Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice’s 22nd Annual Golf Tournament, recently welcomed 191 golfers to Little Mill Country Club to raise funds and awareness for Samaritan’s not-for-profit services.
The tournament, sponsored by The Richardson Family Dealerships, raised more than $164,000 to help Samaritan provide care for community members coping with aging, serious illness or grief and to assist patients and their families live each day to the fullest with dignity, comfort and support.
“We are so grateful for the outpouring of support for this year’s tournament,” said Maryann Boccolini, Samaritan President and CEO. “This generosity allows Samaritan to care for uninsured patients and offer programs such as Palliative Medical Partners, Transitions, bereavement support and the comfort of services such as massage, music, pet and aroma therapies.”
The tournament’s theme centered on “getting loud” about Samaritan’ programs and services.
Samaritan Director of Development Robin Todd said, “We encouraged golfers to wear their most brightly colored shorts to show their support. Each pair of striped, polka-dotted or paisley-printed shorts helped Samaritan spread the message 'loud and clear' that our expanded Family of Services is here to serve all who need us.”
The Streep Family of Shamong sponsored the Loud Pants Contest to celebrate the life and memory of John Streep, their beloved “hero, husband, father and poppy.” Streep, a golf enthusiast and former Samaritan hospice patient, supported Samaritan for more than 10 years before losing his battle to brain cancer in 2009. During the evening reception, a plaque was presented to the Streep Family and trophies were awarded to the two most “vibrantly dressed” golfers: Bethanne Ussery and Jim Maggioncalda. (see photo 260)
“We are so grateful for the work of our golf committee, chaired by Roy Fazio of The Protocall Group and Cliff Mancine of Mancine Optical,” said Mary Ann Boccolini. “The support of 85 sponsors and donors, 191 attendees and more than 50 volunteers means that Samaritan can say ‘yes’ to patients, families or clients who seek our services without regard to their ability to pay.”
Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice ─ a not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization ─ is the regional leader for palliative medicine, hospice care, geriatric care management, grief support and counseling and end-of-life education and advocacy. These Samaritan programs provide a range of services available throughout the course of an illness and beyond. Samaritan provides care for people in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer counties who are coping with elder care issues, serious illness, and/or grief. Generous community support last year funded $1.25 million in essential, yet non-reimbursed, services over-and-above Samaritan services covered by Medicare, Medicaid, VA and commercial insurers.
