Kelowna, Canada, August 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Tumbleweed Film Festival is rolling back to Osoyoos Aug-16-18th bringing a brand new selection of entertaining short films to the NK’MIP Resort for a three-night film-and-wine event, which will showcase many award-winning independent films as well as all the amenities of an extensive first-class Osoyoos-area resort.
Tumbleweed, www.tumbleweedfilmfest.com, highlights short films from around the world, as well as local Okanagan wineries and breweries. The film festival offers attendees the opportunity to watch seldom seen films, while sampling local wines and beers.
Geoff Klein and Mo Fine, directors of the Tumbleweed Film Festival, say they are delighted to bring their Tumbleweed back to Osoyoos for a second year. “This festival would not be possible without the strong support from the Osoyoos community, including the Osoyoos Indian Band Development Corporation.” Klein says.
According to Mayor Stu Wells for the Town of Osoyoos, ”On behalf of council and staff, we are very excited about this year’s showcase of film selections and are looking forward to working with the festival organizers to keep growing this event for many years to come.”
“Nights of Films & Wines” will be held at the NK’MIP Resort. Jennifer Busmann, Guest Services Manager at NK’MIP Cellars winery, says “It is so exciting to have the festival return, the films last year were some of the best I have seen in years.” The films will be shown in the main theatre at the resort’s NK’MIP Desert Cultural Centre, wine events will also be held at the Desert Cultural Centre, and accommodation packages are available at the onsite Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort. Other amenities at NK’MIP Resort include Sonora Desert Spa, the NK’MIP Conference Centre, Sonora Dunes Golf Course, and NK’MIP RV Park.
This year’s festival includes three evening showings of different short films, ranging from comedy and drama, to documentaries and animation. Thirty-three films will screen over the three-day festival, which includes films from Canada, Britain, France, the U.S., Uganda, Spain and Iceland. Some films this year even include a star-studded cast, like the British short “Friend Request Pending” with the actress Dame Judi Dench. Also many award winning short films will screen this year, including the audience favorite at the Seattle Intl. Film Festival, “CatCam”, directed by Seth Keal.
“Each night’s screenings of films are really strong this year. I think our audiences well definitely be pleasantly surprised by the quality of these films,” Klein says.
Programs for the entire festival will be available at www.tumbleweedfilmfest.com. Tastings at the event begin at 7pm, with films starting at 7:30pm. Tickets to each evening are $18, with tickets available at the door or in advance at the TumbleweedFilmFest.com.
“We love independent film,” Fine says. “And we love the beauty of this area, so we’re hoping to continue to promote this festival in the Okanagan and help get the word out on it.” “Our saying is “Watch Globally, Drink Locally”, so if we can bring the world to Osoyoos for three nights via films and get people to try some of the delicious local libations here, then the fest is doing its job.”
Destination Osoyoos Executive Director Jo Knight says, “Working with our community and stakeholders to foster the creation of events in our shoulder seasons is one of DO’s strategies. We look forward to this becoming an annual event.”
Busmann says the ‘Best of Fest’ event itinerary will include First Nations welcoming ceremonies, drumming, storytelling, and a complimentary introductory NK’MIP Cellars wine-tasting. The winery will also provide wine at the film screenings in the Desert Cultural Centre. She adds that officials at the NK’MIP Resort are excited about the upcoming event.
