Educational Fair 2007
The Education Station's Annual Educational Fair will take place on Wednesday, July 18th, 2007, at the Springdale store.
Springdale, AR, June 25, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The Education Station annual Educational Fair is scheduled for July 18th, 2007, at the Springdale store in Ozark Center Point Place.
For nearly a decade, the Educational Fair has been area teacher's favorite back-to-school event, with door prizes, drawings, and giveaways, as well as the opportunity to network with other teachers and to see the newest classroom materials.
"It's the unofficial kickoff to the school year," says owner Pam Gilbreath. "Teachers who have been out of the classroom for a couple of months see all their school friends here, and it just becomes a big old party."
"It gets me in the mood to teach again," agrees Springdale teacher Janice Jones. This year, there will be make and take stations and games, too.
"Fewer publishing companies are sending their representatives out this year," says Gilbreath, citing changes in the publishing industry. "They're sending more giveaways and fun activities."
"This has been a year of big changes for us, too," says co-owner Jim Gilbreath. "Now we have just one store, and we're doing more online, more conferences and workshops, more visits to the schools. Business is changing overall, and we all have to change to keep up." One change at the store is the addition of a store blog, in the voice of store dog Dexter. "We decided to use Dexter's voice when a workshop presenter told us she was giving out door prizes to people who could answer trivia questions. She asked for the name of the owner of the Education Station, the manager -- and then for the name of the dog, and that's what everyone knew."
"Besides," adds Jim Gilbreath, "he's the cutest of us all." Dexter's Discoveries, as the blog is named, has lesson plans and links for teachers every day. Manager Rebecca Haden, who does Dexter's typing for him, says that his lessons are always tailored to fit Arkansas state requirements. Still, his readers are not all from Arkansas. "He is surprisingly popular in Hong Kong," Haden says. Still, the Educational Fair remains a local event. "It's a tradition," says Gilbreath. "I guess we couldn't ever just stop doing it."
