Yodel Presented with RoSPA Gold Award

Hatfield, United Kingdom, August 08, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Yodel, the UK’s leading parcel delivery company, has received the RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety for a second time.

The award was presented to Yodel’s sort centres and subsidiary Yodel Transport, in recognition of continued commitment to high standards of health and safety management and was collected by Yodel’s senior divisional HS&E manager, Gerry Prior at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel.

This is the second consecutive year that the two departments, which are responsible for the collection, sortation and distribution of parcels between Yodel’s national sort and local service centres, have scooped a Gold Award.

The rate of reportable incidents has reduced significantly year on year since 2009 with the accident incident rate falling by 76% between 2010 and 2011 alone as a result of policy enforcement, risk assessment, cascade briefings, training and monitoring.

Yodel is also certified to OHSAS 18001, which is the Occupational Health and Safety certification.

Marija Simovic, COO, Yodel said: “Receiving this prestigious accolade from RoSPA for our approach to health and safety management is a great honour and indicates our rigorous attention to detail.

“Ensuring the safety of our workforce and the public is paramount and it is a priority for us to maintain such high standards.”

The awards are based on each organisation's occupational health and safety performance assessed against the judging criteria and marked at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels.

David Rawlins, awards manager at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), a safety charity with a 95-year history, said: “The RoSPA Awards programme provides well-deserved recognition for the winners and spurs on other organisations to raise their standards of accident and ill health prevention.

“We congratulate Yodel on its success and encourage it, and all our other winners, to remain committed to safety and health, an approach that is well recognised to be good for workers and the bottom line.”

The RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards scheme dates back to 1956 and is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK. It recognises commitment to accident and ill health prevention and is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas.

In addition to reviewing accident records, the scheme also considers entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including strong leadership and workforce involvement.
