Dr. David Reina Explains Why Filtered Tap Water is Better Than Bottled Water

Tampa, FL, August 08, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Dr. David Reina, noted Florida physician and a member of the IncreaseYourHealth.net team, has published his latest blog explaining why filtered tap water is healthier to drink than most bottled waters.

"Bottled water is often just tap water. But most municipal tap water actually has a more thorough inspection for safety than bottled water," Dr. Reina stated. "When you add in a good home filter, the tap water is almost always better for you than expensive bottled water."

Dr. Reina notes that municipal tap water is not permitted to contain E. coli or fecal coliform bacteria and that most municipalities test their water for coliform bacteria more than 100 times a month. Dr. Reina says, “New York City tests samples nearly once a minute all year long. All municipal tests are mandated to be performed in certified labs.” But, the FDA rules for bottled water include no such bacterial prohibitions and require testing only once per week. Dr. Reina further points out that FDA testing of bottled water does not need to be carried out in certified labs.

Dr. Reina explains that bottled water is often marketed as"‘pure," but nearly 40% of bottled water is tap water with added minerals or filtration. Water bottles, though cleaned, are not always sterilized. Relatively low amounts of bacteria at bottling can multiply to a much larger and problematic amount by the time bottles hit store shelves, Dr. Reina points out.
