GCFLearnFree.org Launches Brand New Information Literacy Program

Information literacy, also called “digital literacy,” “gap skills,” or “21st century skills” is getting more and more attention from educators and employers alike. Many companies are discovering a skills gap in the workforce as many employees lack essential skills between critical thinking and technology.

Raleigh, NC, August 10, 2012 --(PR.com)-- After a year in development, the Technology Curriculum team at GCFLearnFree.org has introduced a brand new program this week. This newest program, named Information Literacy, focuses on teaching learners to find, evaluate, effectively communicate, and manage information in today's digital world. It also explores how to create original content by processing information and using it correctly.

Information literacy, also called “digital literacy,” “gap skills,” or “21st century skills” is getting more and more attention from educators and employers alike. Many companies are discovering a skills gap in the workforce as many employees lack essential skills between critical thinking and technology.

Tutorials included in this new program are: avoiding plagiarism, how to read a webpage, media literacy, judging online information, how to synthesize information, copyright and fair use, and how to search more effectively. These highly interactive modules will assist learners in better understanding the information they interact with online through real-life applications and hands on practice.

This program differs from other tutorials found on the GCFLearnFree.org website by being organized in modules that include more interactives, slideshows and conceptual videos. Instead of a linear lesson format, Information Literacy is comprised of learning modules that give the learner more opportunity to explore and choose what they want.
