Chukar Cherries Represents the Pacific Northwest on NPR’s “Americandy” Series
Dried, chocolate-covered cherries are nostalgic treat for Northwesterners.
Seattle, WA, August 11, 2012 --(PR.com)-- In the coming days, NPR will take listeners to Washington State to taste Chukar Cherries’ chocolate-covered fruits and nuts as part of the special series “Americandy: Sweet Land of Liberty.”
A regional version of the story exploring how Chukar Cherries makes their all natural confections aired in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho on July 25th, 2012. The full story will air on national radio on or around August 11th.
The Americandy series celebrates regional sweets across the US and delves into the confections that make Americans miss home. From Texas Chewie Pecan Pralines to the Red Coconut Balls of Hawaii, NPR treats listeners to a tour of America’s regional confections and examines the reasons behind the continued popularity of these treats.
Chukar Cherries was chosen to represent the Pacific Northwest with their unique dried cherries, berries, and nuts coated in premium chocolate. The company was founded on a family orchard in 1988 and they still dry their cherries amongst the orchards of central Washington. Many Chukar devotees are also introduced to the company at Chukar’s iconic storefront in Seattle’s Pike Place Market.
Chukar carries 23 varieties of chocolate-covered fruits and nuts ranging from Chipotle Cherries (locally grown Rainier cherries covered in ultra-dark chocolate with a chipotle kick) to Cabernet Cherries (Montmorency Tart cherries covered in dark chocolate with natural wine flavor).
Chukar’s natural treats are available in Pike Place Market, at the company’s flagship store in Prosser, WA, at their new store in Leavenworth, WA, and online at www.chukar.com.
The Chukar Story
In 1988 our family launched Chukar Cherries on our beloved cherry orchard to showcase the natural bounty of Washington's fruit lands. To this day, our approach in the Chukar Kitchen is simple—transform tree-ripened local fruits and hearty nuts into freshly made, extraordinary cherry and chocolate gifts. One taste and you’ll know that Chukar is synonymous with the Best of Nature, Best of Chocolate®.
