City of Kodiak, AK Selects the Govern Business Tax Suite
St. Louis, MO, August 15, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Management Solutions for Government (MS Govern), a division of Harris Computer Systems, is pleased to name the City of Kodiak, Alaska as its newest customer. The City purchased the Govern Business Tax Suite.
“Our Alaska Customer list is growing and it is exciting to have two Alaskan agencies contract with MS Govern within two months to acquire and implement the Govern Business Tax Suite. We are delighted to add the City of Kodiak as another MS Govern Customer. The Govern Software will provide the City with an innovative and comprehensive Sales and Transient Tax Administration, Billing, Collection, and Audit system based on the Govern OpenForms Technology. Using the eGovern Suite, the City will extend its eGovernment services to businesses where they could file their tax returns online. With its configurable capability, the Govern Software will enable the City to control its Total Cost of Ownership of the system. We look forward to a successful project implementation and ongoing partnership with the City of Kodiak,” says Richard Beaini, VP of Sales.
“The City of Kodiak was looking for a Sales Tax solution that has a long term technology, flexible, integrated, time-tested implementation methodology and a system that would grow with the City. The MS Govern system uses a modern technology platform, designed to allow flexibility and allow our users to easily pull out more meaningful information and to provide better productivity. Additionally the City was looking for online capability to allow businesses the opportunity to complete sales tax registration and sales tax returns electronically. The MS Govern solution is exclusively for public sectors. This solution is configurable, scalable in size so it can meet the City’s needs for years to come. This solution uses flexible architecture and easy to use administrative tools to adapt to the user requirements. Users can create an unlimited number of variable fields as their data and reporting requirements evolve over time,” stated Mary Munk, Finance Director, City of Kodiak.
The City of Kodiak is situated on the second largest island in the United States, approximately 250 air miles southwest of Anchorage in the Gulf of Alaska. Kodiak Island is known as "Alaska's Emerald Isle" as it offers stunning scenery and an abundance of wildlife - perfect for lovers of the great outdoors. The City of Kodiak is a home ruled city and operates under the Council-Manager form of government, which combines the abilities of a professionally trained, full-time manager, with the interested and dedicated services of elected citizens to enhance the safety, livability, and prosperity of the community. The City is a hub for the maritime industry of Southwest Alaska and home to a large and varied fishing fleet. The Port operates a container terminal and the two small boat harbors accommodate a fleet of 1,200 fishing and general purpose recreational vessels annually.
Kodiak is an important environmental asset which affects the fishing industry, particularly salmon fishing, and the island is coveted by hunters worldwide for its unique Kodiak bear and other game animals, there are strict laws governing fishing and hunting activities as well as hiking near spawning streams. The City provides a full array of public services with a Police Department, Fire Department with Emergency Medical Services, Public Library, Parks and Recreation Department, Baranof Museum, Public Works Department, City Engineer, Finance Department, and Port and Harbors Department. The City operates a water utility and a sanitary sewer system with a wastewater treatment plant.
The City will begin the project immediately.
