Manufacturing’s Future on Display at International Trade Show

Ellison Technologies Automation will showcase two robots at this year’s IMTS.

Chicago, IL, August 16, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Ellison Technologies Automation, in conjunction with their partner DMG/Mori Seiki, will be showcasing the industry’s future with two robotic automation solutions at the 2012 International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS). The displays will be located in the DMG / Mori Seiki collaborative booth #S-8900 in the South Hall.

Held September 10-15 at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago, IMTS 2012 visitors will see two Ellison Technologies Automation robotically automated machining solutions. The cells include a FANUC Robotics M20iA/20T top-loader robot cell and a Lean Machine (LM). The LM Cell is considered to be the outstanding leader for automated machining.

The LM Cell is designed by the skilled team at Ellison Technologies Automation and has been applied to multiple machine platforms due to its inherent flexibility. Both automated solutions increase productivity and reduce part cost while demonstrating the ability to use robotic automation with different control platforms and from different machine tool builders.

The FANUC Robotics M20iA/20T top-loader robot will be automating the load / unload requirements of a prismatic part. The robot transfers blanks to a Mori Seiki NHX4000 horizontal milling center and first operation parts to a DMG DMU50 five axis machining center. After the finishing operation on the DMU50 five axis machining center, the robot returns the part to an operators work area. One of the greatest qualities of this automated machining solution is the open access to the machine tools, even with the robot in automatic mode. Additional advantages of this solution is the robot is available to load or perform processes such as heat treating, grinding, deburring, gauging, assembly and part marking.

The LM M20 L1V1D1 Cell is a standard ET-Automation solution loading a DMG CTV160 vertical turning machine and a DMG / Mori Seiki MillTap 700 compact milling machine with a high density part delivery drawer system. The LM Cell loads a blank into the CTV160 parts magazine and retrieves a semi-finished part. The robot transfers the semi-finished part from the CTV160 to the MillTap700 using a dual gripper and the finished part is then deburred by the FANUC Robotics M20iA20KG robot before it is returned to the part delivery system.
