World T.E.A.M. Sports' April 2013 Face of America Ride Features New Routes
World T.E.A.M. Sport's inclusive April 26-28, 2013 Face of America bicycle ride from Washington to Gettysburg features two new challenging century loops for participating disabled and able-bodied veterans, active duty military and civilians.
Holbrook, NY, August 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- World T.E.A.M. Sports’ iconic Face of America ride from Washington, D.C. to the historic battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is returning April 26-28, 2013.
Bringing together veterans with disabilities, active duty military, retired military veterans, and civilians, the Face of America ride honors members of our national military and provides inspiration to those with disabilities.
While continuing the classic 110-mile two-day Washington to Gettysburg Face of America route in 2013, new options for riders who are seeking greater challenges will be offered. World T.E.A.M. Sports is adding two loop courses which will start and finish in Gettysburg. On Saturday, a full century loop will be offered, while on Sunday, a metric century (62 mile) loop will challenge riders. Participants may choose either or both of these loops, or the classic route. World T.E.A.M. Sports will coordinate route, water and rest stops and SAG support for all routes. The Sunday loop is scheduled to end at the late Corp. Seamus Garrahy's house in Gettysburg for a celebration with the arriving riders from the Washington ride.
Also new for 2013 is a Saturday evening dinner for participants of the two Gettysburg loop rides. This dinner is in addition to the classic Friday evening dinner for participants of the classic Washington to Gettysburg ride. The location for the Gettysburg dinner and additional event details will be released later in 2012 through the official event site at http://worldteamsports.org/events/face-of-america/.
Registration for the 2013 Face of America and the accompanying participant fundraising website will open in early December, 2012.
The Face of America was originally launched in 2000 as a cross-country ride with two teams of participants. In 2002 and 2003, the ride honored the victims of the September 2001 attacks on America, with participants riding from Ground Zero in New York to the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Starting in 2006, the ride was redirected to its current Washington-Gettysburg location.
Funds raised through the ride pay for participating veterans with disabilities. Any additional funds are applied to other World T.E.A.M. Sports events, such as the annual Adventure TEAM Challenge in Colorado.
