4th Annual Charity Date Auction to Benefit Local Cancer Survivors
United Cancer Advocacy Action Network (UCAAN) announces 4th Annual Charity Benefit to raise funds for current and future programs to aid cancer patients & their families in Ventura County.
Thousand Oaks, CA, August 24, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Every 23 seconds someone is diagnosed with Cancer and just last year over 3,300 people in Ventura County alone were diagnosed with cancer. The question is what happens to these patients/survivors during and after treatments are done?
UCAAN is proud to announce their 4th Annual Charity Date Auction, which is right around the corner on Sunday September 30th, 2012 at Fiamme Restaurant – 3731 East Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks 91362. The event features the option for attendees to bid on dates with some of the most eligible bachelors & bachelorettes of Ventura County. UCAAN invites people 21 and up to attend the event to enjoy Improvisational comedy by Wingnut Theater, a silent auction complete with gift baskets, date packages, celebrity memorabilia and more. Event starts promptly at 6pm, doors open at 5:45pm. Date auction bidding starts @ $50.
The main goal of UCAAN is to provide guidance, support and inspiration, gifts of hope and in the future: financial assistance to patients/survivors and their families. Founder Rachel Shur, understands firsthand what it’s like to have cancer, endure the treatments and have the long term side effects left to deal with and the financial need increase with little to no help in sight. This is what brought her to starting UCAAN. It was her diagnosis of terminal Leukemia in 2006, followed by her relapse in 2007 and stem cell transplant in 2008 that made her realize that there wasn’t enough help available for patients like her.
Shur; choose to embrace the disease that almost killed her and turn it into something bigger than herself – an organization that focuses primarily on the needs of the patients. UCAAN was recently featured in the Acorn Newspaper on August 16th, 2012, “UCAAN tries to solve problems, matching providers of services with cancer patients who need them,” says retired editor Steve Holt, who ends the article by saying: “Shur is a person who saw a need and didn’t turn away. We need more people like that!”
