The Songwriters Forum
Highland, CA, August 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Award winning and accomplished songwriter, Joel Lindsey presents the Songwriters Forum hosted by Immanuel Baptist Church in Highland, CA. Lindsey is one of Christian music’s most enduring writers, having more than 800 songs recorded, including over 20 #1 Songs. The Santa Barbara resident is an 11-time Dove Award Winner who has twice been nominated for Songwriter Of The Year. In his 24 year career, Joel has received four Platinum records, seven Gold records and 11 Platinum videos. He has also received four BMI awards, four Absolutely Gospel Awards and a Singing News Fan Award.
Students who attend the Songwriters Forum can expect to be the first to experience the curriculum Lindsey has developed for his upcoming book on songwriting. Lindsey explains, “There is nothing else in the world like getting together with a group of like-minded people to discuss the ins and outs of what makes some songs work and others not. I love discussing the process of writing and exploring ways to inspire and motivate all of us to digger deeper into our creative souls.”
With training and instruction from one of the most gifted, experienced and prolific songwriters of our time, students will find this experience rewarding and beneficial. “If you listen to other great songs and learn from other great songwriters, you learn how to use language and words. I think that's a big thing. You have to know how to express yourself with words to get the point across,” Lindsey states.
“Everyone goes through tough times in their lives. If you shake your head no, you're kidding yourself. I just think the best songs are born out of pain. How can you truly experience joy if you've not experienced pain or sorrow? The greatest joy is born out of the greatest sorrow. You have to experience that to know what you are writing about.” Lindsey is a two-time cancer survivor and donates a great deal of his spare time volunteering and raising money for The American Cancer Society, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and The Ronald McDonald House. “Just like everyone else, I've had health problems, financial problems, etc. We all go through those things. There are those problems with romance or problems with marriages and if you write about that, then you've got an audience to minister to.”
When he’s not writing songs, Lindsey enjoys cycling, hiking and training for marathons. He can always be found working with aspiring writers in a mentoring capacity and speaking about songwriting to colleges, writing groups and churches. “Once you start to tune yourself to writing you start hearing things in conversations, sermons, etc. that you never would have picked up on before. You're always looking for that next 'big idea' to write about.”
The Forum will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church in Highland, CA on Saturday, September 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Attendees will gain fresh insights to the art and heart of songwriting. Lindsey says, “I guarantee that new and experienced writers alike will find the Songwriters Forum compelling, enlightening and informative.” Topics will include In Search of the BIG Idea, Re-thinking Song Structure, Lyrics and Melody: The Perfect Marriage, Three and A Half Minutes To Change The World, and I Wrote A Song That My Mom Really Likes…Now What?
There are benefits for early registration. The first 10 songwriters who register will be entered into a drawing to receive a 45-minute personal online mentoring session.
