Charity Begins on the Homepage: Musicians Marry Art and Technology to Raise Money for Causes

Thomas McAulay and Jared McCammon, Los Angeles natives and founders of Causewaves, are in the midst of their campaign to bring nine musical groups or solo artists together in a series of exclusive web-based video musical performances that will not only showcase the beauty of California and the talents of the participants, but also raise money for a variety of charities.

Los Angeles, CA, August 27, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Following a path blazed in the 1980s by legendary musician/philanthropist Bob Geldof, the man behind such monumental charitable efforts as Band Aid, Live Aid and USA for Africa's "We Are the World," two Los Angeles-based organizers have launched their own initiative to bridge musicians and charitable causes with a fund-raising project called Causewaves.

“It's great because you’ll be supporting a cause that you know the artists care about,” said McAulay, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Video/Television and Business from Hofstra University. “We want to bring viewers and listeners performances by these artists on a beautiful piece of California land and help establish the platform for the future.”

“We want to give you high quality audio and video of these sessions for you to enjoy streaming online for free,” adds McCammon. “And you can be a part of something exciting and beautiful.”'

To fund the marriage of art and technology, the duo is running an all-or-nothing campaign on the crowd-sourced fund-raising platform Indiegogo.com, and has already reached more than 30 percent of their $9,000 goal. The project has until Sept. 27, 2012 to raise the balance or all funds will be returned to the original supporters.

Causewaves will feature national and touring acts that will have three songs recorded and filmed for the web series, while making an appeal for their favorite charity, encouraging viewers to make a donation to the chosen organization. The selected musicians and their charities of choice will be announced following Causewaves' initial fund-raising campaign on Indiegogo.

Causewaves is the brainchild of two longtime friends who were instrumental in a similar project called Subway Sessions that was produced in New York in 2010. It featured 30 separate musical acts performing acoustical sets in various locations throughout the city's subway system. The series attracted an international audience of over a million viewers as well as the attention of The Wall Street Journal, NBC New York, Grammy.com and other news outlets. The charitable component is a new feature to their latest efforts.

Musicians themselves, McAulay and McCammon both have extensive experience in video and audio production. McCammon holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Business from New York University and has worked on tour with such groups as Blink-182, Linkin Park, Incubus, Jimmy Eat World and Manchester Orchestra.

Supporters interested in making a contribution to the innovative charitable project can log on to Indiegogo.com. In exchange for their support, they will receive promotional items such as T-shirts, posters, or even a credit as an executive producer on the project, depending on their level of donation. More information about the project can also be found on the Causewaves website at www.causewaves.
