Adelphi University to Host Its Seventh Outdoor Sculpture Biennial

The Adelphi University Exhibitions Program presents its seventh Outdoor Sculpture Biennial, featuring the works of 10 skilled sculptors. The biennial will be on view from September 1, 2012 to May 31, 2014.

Garden City, NY, August 29, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Adelphi University Exhibitions Program is delighted to present its seventh Outdoor Sculpture Biennial, featuring the works of 10 skilled sculptors. Their diverse works are located throughout the scenic 75-acre arboretum on the Garden City campus. The biennial will be on view from September 1, 2012 to May 31, 2014. A free reception will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2012, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., along with a walking tour of the sculptures beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Lobby.

This outdoor installation showcases the talents of Miggy Buck (NY), John Clement (NY), Maria Hall (NY), Ed Haugevik (NY), William King (NY), Anti Liu (NY), Johnny Poux (NY), Kim Radochia (MA), Christopher Saucedo (NY), and Hans Van de Bovenkamp (NY). Each sculptor presents his or her own artistic language; their own stories and thoughts to the viewer. Works of art encompass use of various materials: steel, bronze, aluminum, concrete and reflective mirrors. These man-made creations are transposed into poetic visual narrations.

The Outdoor Sculpture Biennial brings forth new faces with the celebrated works of William King and Hans Van de Bovenkamp. Mr. King’s Tennis For Money abstractly illustrates four players at the net poised to begin. Van de Bovenkamp’s steel structure entitled Family Outing, is composed of organic flowing vertical forms evoking a powerful uplifting spirit. The exhibit also breaks new ground with Johnny Poux’s slender, large-scale kinetic aluminum structure, entitled Seed, as the tallest piece to be on display. John Clement’s sculpture Duke is the heaviest work, weighing more than 3,000 pounds. This coiled, dense, steel piece can catch one’s eye from afar as well, because of its striking red color.

The combination of unique art and magnificent pathways, allows art enthusiasts and other viewers to enjoy each piece as it interacts with its surroundings on the Adelphi campus. Through the changing seasons, these impressive large outdoor constructions communicate and age with their environment.
