Be a Seed Conference: Foster Care, International & Domestic Adoption and More
Portland, OR, September 13, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Bringing a child into your home is a exciting decision but some people feel unsure of what is the best fit for their family or how to go about it. Any person can Google adoption agencies online and discover countless options but even still, whats the right agency is different for everyone.
Raven Smith became a volunteer for the Oregon Department of Human Services in 2011. During her time as a volunteer she learned of sibling groups that had to be separated because there was no foster family to care for all of them in one home. She learned that there were times when little children slept on the office floors in the Department of Human Services office because there was no foster family available. She was asked by her supervisor Nicole Hall to do research on what other states nationwide were doing to recruit foster families. Raven Smith said, "I learned of many creative ideas that other States were doing nationwide. I also discovered that the churches were a great source to recruit foster families and wasn't as utilized as it could be in Oregon."
This information inspired the Be A Seed Conference. In time, this conference became a focus for much more from international adoption, domestic adoption, foster care and much more. With the help of Allison Owen another volunteer, this Conference became a buffet of options and how to's for bringing a child into their home.
This free conference will be held at Solid Rock Church from 9am til noon. The address is 10500 SW Nimbus Ave, Portland Oregon. There will be over 15 organizations present. After the two hour conference, break out tables will be made available. Volunteer Raven Smith said, "Our hopes is that no one will walk away without having gained some clarity on which path would be best for their family. And hopefully this conference will break some myths and stereotypes about these foster kids too."
