Securities America Employees Help Project Harmony Initiative
Community service is one of the core values of Securities America, as the employees demonstrated the same by coming together at Project Harmony, to help children who are victims of abuse and neglect. Each child was given a blanket and a toy as comfort gifts, all of which was paid for by Securities America. Project Harmony, which helps nearly 2300 children, has been receiving support from the financial advisory firm for various drives in the past.
Omaha, NE, August 31, 2012 --(PR.com)-- As part of Employee Appreciation Week, Securities America employees came together Aug. 23 to participate in a community service project for local child protection center Project Harmony. Project Harmony provides effective, immediate and sensitive support to children who are victims or suspected victims of abuse and neglect.
“We are glad to have had the opportunity to work on something together as a company that will benefit the local community,” said Jim Nagengast, CEO and president of Securities America. “At Securities America, community is one of our core values, and we strive to give back whenever we can.”
Throughout the day, employees took time away from their work to complete 50 tied blankets to donate to Project Harmony. The materials to make the blankets were paid for by Securities America. Each child is given a blanket and a toy as comfort gifts when they leave the center. Last year Project Harmony helped approximately 2,300 children. Because of the number of children the center helps, the demand for blankets is always great.
“Securities America has been a big supporter of Project Harmony for a long time,” said Amy Chisholm, Project Harmony’s development director. “They have participated in backpack drives by collecting necessary in-kind items, financially by sponsoring our golf tournaments and now they have helped us by creating these beautiful blankets and holding another donation drive.”
Securities America’s employees collected more than $1,000 in monetary donations and hundreds of wish-list donation items for the center. Many times children and infants come to Project Harmony from their homes with nothing but the shirt on their back. The center provides them with some simple essentials like a toothbrush and toothpaste, socks and undergarments, shampoo and soap, and a bag to carry them all in.
“We’re the first place a child goes to after being removed from an abusive situation,” Chisholm said. “We provide them a safe and comforting environment along with the supplies they need. The community needs to know there is someone who will stand up for children. Children can’t do it alone, so they need adults to do it for them.”
Project Harmony assembles a multidisciplinary team composed of law enforcement, investigative, social service, medical and referral professionals dedicated to protecting children and prosecuting offenders. The purpose of the center is to enhance the communication among professionals by co-housing in one facility: Project Harmony, the Omaha Police Department-Child Victim/ Sexual Assault Unit, Nebraska Health and Human Services-Child Protection Services and Lutheran Family Services R-Safe Program.
