CrowdRank Releases Comprehensive U.S. Best College Rankings: Harvard, Yale, and Stanford Top Rankings

Crowdsourced U.S. Best College Rankings available on www.crowdrank.net

Cambridge, MA, September 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- CrowdRank released its new September 2012 best college rankings today covering all US bachelor's degree-granting institutions. Harvard University, Yale University, and Stanford University led the rankings among all institutions. Outside of the military service academies, Williams College was the highest ranked liberal arts college, followed by Swarthmore College and Amherst College.

With the annual ranking season from U.S. News & World Report and Princeton Review kicking off, CrowdRank has added a fresh new voice to the rankings debate. According to Paul Everett, Director of Analytics, "We developed CrowdRank after realizing that for many of life's most important and interesting topics, rankings either do not exist or are more misleading than helpful. Considering just colleges, U.S. News has been a dominant voice in rankings for years. But when you scratch beneath the surface, it turns out that their rankings are essentially the opinions of a small number of self-appointed experts. In an age of open and social communication, we think centrally controlled expert-driven models are less relevant than a crowd-based ranking methodology. We wanted to democratize rankings for colleges and other categories about which people make important decisions."

Relying on over 3 million community votes to date, CrowdRank has rapidly become the Wikipedia of rankings--a go-to reference that millions visit each month and that is backed by the wisdom of the crowd. The company follows the guiding principle that rankings reflecting the unencumbered thoughts of all people are often more useful than those that reflect the opinions of a small number of self-appointed experts. CrowdRank has developed an innovative platform that draws on the over 3 million community votes already cast to bring the crowdsourcing revolution to rankings via a novel pairwise ranking methodology that avoids the tedium of asking community members to rank every item in a category and side-steps the inaccuracy of a poll that asks for just the top picks.
