Bayer MaterialScience's Blast-Protection Solution for Building Facades Protects Critical Facilities and Personnel
Kos, Greece, September 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- With ever-increasing threats and always-decreasing budgets in mind, Bayer MaterialScience has developed a new innovative blast-mitigating system for critical buildings and other structures that can be tailored to protect against a range of threat levels. The Hygard polycarbonate laminate system can be added to existing buildings to avoid the high costs of relocating or building new, more secure structures.
The system combines the aesthetics and impact resistance of Hygard EX1750 polycarbonate laminate panels with a high-strength, energy-absorbing steel mounting structure. The system can protect and provide a decorative appearance to new and existing (retrofit) buildings, allowing most buildings to be upgraded to higher blast protection levels than previously possible. In particular, the system is ideal for buildings in urban settings where standoff distance is greatly diminished.
Dr. Volker Benz, senior manager marketing, Impact Shielding EMEA, Bayer MaterialScience, is highlighting the new technology, including open-arena blast testing results, during his presentation “A new blast-mitigation solution for building facades protection with a laminated polycarbonate-based system” at the International Conference on Structures Under Shock and Impact being held Sept. 4-6 in Kos, Greece.
