Wine Cellars: Not Just for Basements Anymore

Canadian Company Pushes the Limit on Wine Cellar Design and Engineering

Wine Cellars: Not Just for Basements Anymore
Winnipeg, Canada, September 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Wine cellars have been around for thousands of years, and until recently, their design has remained mostly utilitarian. But the days of plain-looking wine cellars relegated to basement cold rooms may be numbered. Leading custom wine cellar makers are increasingly crafting unique and beautiful wine storage spaces more in line with contemporary design, and more fit for living areas.

Recently, Genuwine Cellars, a world leader in custom wine cellar design situated in Winnipeg, Canada, released a new line of wine racking called “the Cube,” which implements an abstract array of vertical and horizontal shelves with a piano finish and built-in illuminated shelves.

Genuwine founder Robb Denomme was responsible for creating the Cube. “It looks simple enough,” said Denomme, “but two years of engineering and design went into building this product line.”

The Cube epitomizes the movement towards ultra-modern wine cellar design. With its straight-line aesthetic, the Cube appears deceptively simple, but it is in fact nothing short of an engineering marvel with each shelf able to bear the overhand stress of over 4 cases of wine. At its heart, the Cube does not forget its roots as a functional wine cellar, with every cutout meticulously sized and shaped to accommodate the stacking of all the various bottle sizes, to ensure that no space is wasted. But ultimately it’s the stunning look of this cellar that has made it a prominent feature in a number of new homes, including a $20 million show-home in Beverly Hills.

Contemporary wine cellars, like the Cube, often employ luxury wood species, marble countertops, glass walls and creative lighting. With interior designers and architects becoming more and more involved, wine cellars continue to evolve from their dingy start in the damp caves of France. “Wine cellars used to be hidden in a house,” said Denomme, “but now, they are becoming real showpieces. We have had at least two clients who have slept the first night in their cellar.”

About Genuwine Cellars: Genuwine Cellars was founded in 1995, and has been creating custom wine cellars for clients around the world ever since. They are unique in the wine cellar industry as they are both the designer and manufacturer of their products.
