Global Federation of Chinese Business Women Supports Mental Health Programs for Asian Americans
Houston, TX, September 08, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Global Federation of Chinese Business Women Southern USA Chapter has chosen Asian American Family Services as their organization of choice to receive a generous donation of $2,000 to help further AAFS’s mission of enhancing the mental health and social well-being of the Asian Americans in Greater Houston.
Asian American Family Services (AAFS), a non-profit established in 1994, is the only community-based mental health and social service agency serving the ethnically diverse pan-Asian community with linguistically and culturally appropriate mental health counseling and supportive services. The staff speaks over 16 different Asian languages/dialects including Burmese, Chinese, Korean, Malay, Nepali, Vietnamese, Hindi, and Urdu.
Kim Szeto, founding member and CEO of Asian American Family Services, is "grateful and honored to receive the support of the Global Federation of Chinese Business Women.” She stresses that this donation is not only important in that the funds will be directly translated into services and programs impacting women, but that it “represents an awareness of the needs of a very underserved community that is rare and much appreciated.”
While the mission of the Global Federation of Business Women has traditionally focused on developing strong female business leaders, networking and interpersonal growth, this recognition of AAFS not only demonstrates GFCBW’s commitment to the community but its compassion for people of all cultures and from all walks of life.
The check presentation is to take place this Saturday, September 8th at 2pm at the offices of AAFS. Distinguished Attendees include Director General Liu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, with AAFS Board President Dr. Peter Chang and Treasurer Angela Chan accepting the generous donation.
In addition to their direct support of AAFS’s mental health and counseling programs, the Federation of Chinese Business Women have also been great supporters of AAFS through their past sponsorship of AAFS’s Annual Golden Gala set to take place this year at the Hotel ZaZa on September 20, 2012. The annual ball raises awareness and much needed funds for AAFS to continue providing mental health care, counseling, and vocational training for the underserved community of Asian refugees, immigrants, and their families.
