Monica Smiley Elected to Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women Board of Directors
Publisher of Enterprising Women Magazine to Help Guide PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS®, Other Women Entrepreneur Programs
Cary, NC, September 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Monica Smiley, publisher and CEO of Enterprising Women magazine (http://www.enterprisingwomen.com), has announced that she was recently elected to the board of directors of the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women (IEEW), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women to grow their businesses, pursue greater entrepreneurial ventures, and become more active public policy advocates. In her role, Smiley will be responsible for promoting IEEW’s PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® program, as well as guiding other initiatives that encourage the worldwide development of women entrepreneurs.
Smiley and Enterprising Women’s partnership with IEEW began at the organization’s inception six years ago. During this time, Smiley has developed mentoring relationships with women from Rwanda and Afghanistan who have participated in IEEW’s PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® program and has selected one student from each country each year to receive the prestigious Enterprising Women of the Year Award. PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® connects businesswomen in the United States with budding Afghani and Rwandan women entrepreneurs to develop economic and social success in their home countries. Quotes:
"My personal journey with the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® program has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” said Smiley. “Getting to know these amazing women from both Rwanda and Afghanistan has been both a privilege and a joy. As a mentor in this program, you receive much more than you give. Wherever I travel around the world, when I am asked to speak about the women's business community, I never miss an opportunity to be an ambassador for this amazing program. It will be an honor to serve on the IEEW board of directors and to be a part of helping the organization continue its important mission.”
“We are excited to welcome Monica Smiley onto our board of directors,” said Dr. Terry Neese, founder and CEO of the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women. “She has been a great supporter of the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women's PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® Program for several years, both as a mentor and by awarding two of our students every year with the Enterprising Women Award. Her passion for women entrepreneurs around the world makes her an excellent fit for our board.”
