New Parenting Site Offers Research-Based Advice for the Trickiest of Parenting Challenges

Parenting Soup translates research from unlikely sources into advice using simple tips, visuals, and infographics. The site is being launched alongside a drawing, with a prize sure to relax busy parents.

Phoenix, AZ, September 11, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Today Parenting Soup announced the launch of http://parentingsoup dot com, along with an online contest. The purpose of the blog is to help parents address their parenting challenge “du jour” with bite-sized tips. “There is so much research out there on topics like food psychology and motivation, which can benefit countless parents who don’t have time to find, much less apply it to daily parenting challenges,” says Lisa Maurer, former teacher, mother of two preschoolers, and founder of Parenting Soup. Translating research into actionable tips is evidenced by a recent Parenting Soup twitter post: “If your child says she can't do something, add the word 'yet' at the end and revel in her challenge.” The research behind this post was from world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Dr. Carol S. Dweck, from decades of research on motivation. This tip is one of many in Parenting Soup’s segment “The Motivation Toolbox.” Another popular segment is the “Picky Eater Survival Kit” with research-based advice like: “Know that 70% of children may have a bitter-sensitive gene which can contribute to a dislike for foods like vegetables,” or “It can take 10-20 exposures with a new food for a child to accept that food.” Drawing on food psychology studies from the Monell Chemical Senses Center and Cornell University Food and Brand Lab, the “Picky Eater Survival Kit” helps bring to light some rhyme and reason to the age-old challenge of kids and vegetables, helping parents focus on productive strategies for this often times challenging phase. Parenting Soup utilizes simple tips, visuals, and infographics to bring research to life. The blog is being launched alongside a contest where parents are invited to post a current parenting challenge. Those who respond to the post at parentingsoup dot com will automatically be entered into a drawing to receive a $150 gift card to Massage Envy or the equivalent cash award. All entries will also be used to form upcoming blog posts. This prize is consistent with one of the pieces of advice offered on Parenting Soup, “make time for yourself.”
