Dr. Elsie McKee to Talk Mission During Sept. 26 “Wednesday Night Live” at Titusville Presbyterian Church

Princeton Seminary professor raised in Congo to speak about her experiences as a missionary’s daughter and her continued advocacy in homeland.

Titusville, NJ, September 15, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The First Presbyterian Church of Titusville will host Dr. Elsie McKee, Archibald Alexander Professor of Reformation Studies and the History of Worship at Princeton Theological Seminary, on September 26 for dinner and a conversation about mission work in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

McKee, raised in Congo as the daughter and granddaughter of Presbyterian missionaries, will share some of her experiences of growing up in the Congolese mission field and will present some of her continuing advocacy work there, particularly through the United Front Against Riverblindness, a non-profit organization that works to control and eliminate onchocerciasis, or riverblindness, a public health issue affecting 7 million people in Congo; and Femme Berceau de l'Abondance, or Woman, Cradle of Abundance, an ecumenical organization that supports women, orphans, and people living with HIV/AIDS in Congo.

The evening will begin in the church’s Heritage Room at 6 p.m. with supper and will continue at 6:30 p.m. with McKee’s program, “Meeting New Friends in Congo.” The program will kick off the church’s new “Wednesday Night Live” series, which is designed to provide families and the larger community with opportunities for creative learning and fellowship, and is free, open to the public, and suitable for all ages. There will be a suggested donation of $5 per person to defray expenses for the supper, which will include gourmet macaroni and cheese, salad, bread, and cookies. Supper reservations are suggested, but not required, and may be made by contacting the church.

Future “Wednesday Night Live” events at the First Presbyterian Church of Titusville will include the annual Halloween Hospitality Night, a free outdoor hot-dog supper and rest spot for neighborhood trick-or-treaters on October 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; the Hanging of the Greens, an evening to prepare the church buildings for Advent and Christmas on November 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and Community Caroling, a trip into the community to sing Christmas favorites for neighbors on December 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
