Daystar Supports New Heights FIRST LEGO League Robotics Team
Local technology services company emphasizes importance of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programming and invests in future leaders.
Portsmouth, NH, September 21, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Understanding the importance of a skilled, educated, and talented workforce to the region’s small businesses, Daystar is proud to announce its sponsorship of New Heights’ afterschool robotics program and FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) robotics teams. The small, family-owned and operated technology services company recently presented New Heights administrators with $1,000 to help cover program costs, including robotics kits, team fees, and equipment. This is the second consecutive year Daystar has helped sponsor the afterschool program.

Twelve middle school students across the seacoast are participating in New Heights’ 2012 robotics program, a structured afterschool program that immerses participants in real-world science and technology problems.
Students will first focus on the FLL competition challenge. FLL is an international program for 9 to 16 year-old children designed to get them excited about science and technology – and teach valuable employment and life skills. Children work alongside adult mentors to design, build, and program autonomous robots and create an innovative solution to a problem as part of their research project. The competition season culminates at high-energy, sports-like tournaments.
FLL’s 2012 Challenge is Senior Solutions. New Heights’ FLL robotics teams will work with local senior services providers to research an issue seniors are having in their community, and then design and develop a creative solution to meet the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life for senior citizens. The teams will showcase their robots in the FLL Robotics Competition at UNH on November 10. Following the competition, the robotics teams will participate in local and regional events and community presentations to highlight the importance of STEM programming and teach others about their creative solution.
