South Texas Dental Provides Dallas Seniors with Long Overdue Dental Care
Dallas, TX, September 21, 2012 --(PR.com)-- A group of Dallas inner-city senior citizens in need of dental care but without dental insurance are now on their way to healthier, brighter smiles, thanks to complimentary treatments performed by the dentists of South Texas Dental.
Senior Smiles Day was organized by the office of Dallas Council member Vonciel Jones Hill whose staff identified about 20 seniors over the age of 55 without dental insurance who reside in the Council member’s District. The patients were scheduled for teeth cleanings, fillings and extractions as a result of earlier pre-treatment visits.
“Everything was really great,” said Stephanie Harvey of east Dallas, one of the patients who received treatment at the South Texas Dental office at 1515 S. Buckner. “Better than I anticipated.”
Studies show nearly a third of older adults have untreated tooth decay and nearly a quarter of seniors age 65-74 have severe gum disease, which can lead to diabetes, heart disease and respiratory disease. Moreover, most seniors do not have dental insurance and Medicare does not cover most dental procedures such as fillings and extractions.
“All the patients seen today have other physical problems,” said South Texas Dental’s Dr. Chad Park. “We’re doing some urgent care, some badly needed care.”
Besides receiving the complimentary treatment, the patients received information and items to continue their oral care at home.
