This year marked Hupy & Abraham's milestone commitment of over $100,000 donated to the NAACP Scholarship Fund. The Milwaukee law firm has been dedicated to helping the organization since 1999.
Milwaukee, WI, September 21, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Hupy and Abraham, S.C. showed its continued support of the Milwaukee branch of the NAACP in its attendance at the association’s Annual Freedom Fund Dinner, which took place on Saturday, September 15, 2012.
The event is an annual celebration of the history of the NAACP, the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the United States, which was founded 88 years ago. Milwaukee council members in attendance at the event included Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, Alderman Ashanti Hamilton, and Alderman Nik Kovac. The keynote speaker was Leon W. Russell, Vice Chairman of the NAACP Board of Directors. The theme of this year’s event focused on the upcoming election, “Reform, Restore, Refocus: Your Power, Your Decision-VOTE.”
Over the decades, Hupy and Abraham, S.C. has supported the NAACP’s actions to promote fair treatment of citizens, reform of communities, and, importantly, defending against attacks on civil rights. Hupy and Abraham, S.C. traces its roots to the respected community legislator, attorney, activist, leader, and NAACP member, Lloyd Barbee.
Hupy and Abraham, S.C. proudly presented a check for $10,000 at the 2012 dinner held at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee which pushed the firm to over $100,000 in total donations to the NAACP Scholarship Fund. On behalf of the law firm, Attorney Tim Schelwat presented the check to Warner Jackson, Chair of the Education Committee for the NAACP Milwaukee Chapter. The donation will help ten students who will each receive a $1,000 educational scholarship. To qualify for scholarship, students must have graduated from high school, met the requirements necessary to qualify for the NAACP scholarship, and be accepted into a university of their choice.
Hupy and Abraham, S.C. supports the NAACP Milwaukee Chapter and the tremendous role that it plays within the community. The law firm has been recognized for its continued efforts to provide assistance to families in distress, aid to rising students, and other contributions to the community – efforts that continue to build upon the foundation laid by Attorney Barbee.
