Engineers Hike Pikes Peak to Raise Money for Water for People
Raleigh, NC, September 27, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Three engineers from McKim & Creed hiked to the top of Pikes Peak to raise money and awareness for Water for People (www.waterforpeople.org), an international nonprofit organization dedicated to providing access to improved water and sanitation systems and services in developing countries.
Adrianne Coombes, PE, Mackenzie McBride, EI, and Brian T. White, PE, of McKim & Creed summited the 14,115-ft.-tall Colorado mountain as part of the 21-member Climb for Water team (www.climbforwater.org), which included water resources professionals from several different companies. The team exceeded its goal of raising $1 for every vertical foot climbed.
“This trip really makes you appreciate how easy it is for us to get clean water whenever we need it,” said Coombes, who is a business developer with McKim & Creed. McBride is an engineering intern and White is a staff engineer.
The Pikes Peak hike began on September 14, culminating in a summit amid snow and sub-freezing temperatures the following day.
“Getting to the summit was both a mental and physical challenge, but well worth the reward, knowing we did it to improve the life of so many others,” said White.
