Beacon Day School Welcomes City of La Palma Mayor Pro Tem Steve Hwangbo to Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
On Thursday, September 27th at 5 p.m. PT, Beacon Day School will welcome City of La Palma Mayor Pro Tem Steve Hwangbo to the school's ribbon-cutting ceremony. An open house will follow.

Beacon Day School, a growing program for children with autism, is joined by La Palma Mayor Pro Tem Steve Hwangbo, who will speak at the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new school campus on Thursday, September 27th at 5 p.m. Established in 2004, Beacon serves individuals with autism and related disorders to age 22. Since its inception as a K-12 school, Beacon has expanded to provide in-home and transition services, and an adult community is planned for the future.
Chief Operating Officer Edward Miguel is honored at Mr. Hwangbo’s speaking appearance: “It is wonderful to see this support from the City of La Palma. Autism is such an important topic, affecting approximately 1 U.S. child in 88 – 1 in 54 boys – according to the most recent CDC estimates. Beacon is very proud to help children with autism and related disorders and their families. We hope to serve individuals throughout the lifespan with services that dignify their potential and give them the highest degree of respect.”
Beacon founder Dr. Mary Joann Lang shared her vision: “We hope for a place where individuals with autism can live, learn, work, relax, feel secure, and be respected their whole lives. This new campus for our K-12 students is just the beginning.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 5 p.m., and an open house will follow until 7 p.m. Sampling delicious food from room to room, attendees will be able to tour the school. Supporting microenterprise of those on the autism spectrum, walls are filled with beautiful artwork, including pieces by award-winning painter Trent Altman.
