Multimedia Variety Show Helps to Increase Bisexual Visibility
Bilicious Boston Show Returns to the Stage in Association with the Bisexual Resource Center
Boston, MA, September 27, 2012 --(PR.com)-- On Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 7:30pm, the 3rd Annual Bilicious Boston Show returns to the stage at Boston's South End neighborhood hotspot Club Café. Open to theater-goers of all persuasions, this thought-provoking evening of bisexual-themed multimedia performance playfully mixes serious issues with entertainment through comedy, poetry, music, dance, and film. A Q&A panel discussion will immediately follow the performance, allowing the audience to engage cast members about their thoughts on bisexual issues.
Producer/director Susannah Layton created the Bilicious Show in 2007 while living in San Francisco, when she discovered the lack of any bisexual events in the hugely popular National Queer Arts Festival. Said Ms. Layton, “I think it’s important for bisexuals to be represented in popular culture, to feel visible, understood, and accepted as a community. As a bisexual person, I felt like I had a unique opportunity to create a show which could demystify stereotypes about bisexuality and also create a bridge between the straight and gay communities.” In 2008, the Bilicious Show opened in the National Queer Arts Festival to rave reviews as the only featured bisexual event. The show was so successful that festival organizers invited Ms. Layton and her ensemble cast back to perform in the festival the following two years.
In 2010, Susannah Layton brought the Bilicious Show to Boston, where she currently resides, partnering with the influential Bisexual Resource Center, the oldest national bisexual organization in the U.S. When asked about her experience of working with Ms. Layton, President of the BRC, Ellyn Ruthstrom said, "I am inspired by her passion for providing a queer-friendly multimedia performance that opens up discussion around bisexuality—it’s a subject very few people are willing to take on."
The 3rd Annual Bilicious Boston Show will feature bisexual-themed performances from Tiggy Upland, Laurie Wolfe, S.A. Walden, UnAmerika's Sweetheart Karin Webb, and Michael Monroe. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.biliciousproductions.com
