Rock & Roll Celebrity Waiter Dinner to Serve Up Fun to Benefit the Heights Center

Fort Myers, FL, October 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- “Celebrity” waiters will serve up food, fun and "Rock and Roll" at the Heights Foundation’s Celebrity Waiter Dinner hosted by Yabo Restaurant on Monday, October 15 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Local musicians will fill in as wait staff and compete for tips that inspire bidding wars among guests - including an opportunity to sit in with the band. Funds raised will benefit School Success programs for at-risk kids in the Harlem Heights neighborhood.

“School Success means the whole kid, the whole year; providing academic tutoring, after school and summer camp programs, college scholarship and support, school supplies, and tuition support,” said Kathryn Kelly, President and CEO of The Heights Foundation. Nearly $20,000 was raised at last year’s event.

Alter Ego band members Dr. Larry Hobbs, Ernie Cantu, Richie Ianuzzi and Doug Molloy alongside Emmy-award winning flutist and composer Kat Epple, singer-songwriter Wendy Webb, Grammy-award winning songwriter Randy Thomas and local personalities Amy Sedlacek and Victor Mayeron will all compete for tips.

“Yabo is known for great food, unique wine and eclectic musical entertainment,” said Kelly. “This will be a fun evening that supports our mission to build strong, self-sufficient families in the Harlem Heights neighborhood, through education, opportunity, and enrichment.”

Harlem Heights was originally settled as a rural agricultural community. Approximately 1,200 children live in a mixture of single-family homes and multi-family apartments. Demographically, the population is approximately 55% Hispanic, 36% African-American, and 9% Caucasian. The poverty rate for children in Harlem Heights is more than twice the county average, with family income 40% below the county average. Families are not able to easily access family support services located in downtown Fort Myers, and benefit greatly from programs located within the neighborhood.
